Siena was gorgeous!!! Featured here is the tower of Mangiaguadagni (Eats profits), named after the tyrannical ruler who used the people's money to construct it. I climbed to the top and took a snapshot of the Piazza del Campo (of the field). Every July 2nd and August 16 they have the Palio, a bareback horserace around the Piazza. Also featured is the most amazing, most elaborate cathedral that I have ever seen. They would not let me take pictures inside, but here is the facade. WOW! I actually found the LDS church this morning after an hour of walking around. Last Sunday I was in Ravenna and couldn't find the church at all. So, I went to a catholic service instead! :) This week its back to research in the Biblioteca Nazionale di Firenze.

Beautiful pictures
Well, if you had been here in Omaha the last two weeks, you would have to go church hunting too if you wanted to attend. Last week, there was a tornado (as I am sure you heard) and it knocked out the power-- all meetings were cancelled. This week, we got to church late to find a VERY strange scene. Sacrament meeting in the dark!!! The sacrament was passed using flashlights, and Karri Pratt had a "spelunking" flashlight on her head to play the piano for the opening hymn. I guess the church lost power right before sacrament meeting, and there was not enough time to call everyone... and people were already showing up... so they just went right ahead. People that were there said later that it was really neat. All I can say is that it was really weird to walk in on. I think the children might have been a little freaked out, as it was extremely quiet in there! We turned right around and went to the Old Mill ward! SO FUNNY!!
Sheesh! Just look at what you are missing here! :0)
Oh man! I've just got to get to Italy!
I LOVE Siena!! If I could live in Italy, it would totally be in Siena or Assisi..... lucky you!!
What a beautiful place. I'm reminded of an Institute teacher who housed a foreign exchange student and went sight seeing. I don't remember where they were at but the teacher says, "this building 100 years old." The student says, "In (Germany-I think), the buildings are way older than that!"
Oh, the whole church losing power thing? Absolutely fabulous that where saints congregate, there is Zion. I'm so grateful for priesthood leadership. I wonder that the first time the sacrament was instituted with Christ and the disciples had a whole lot more light than we did. I dunno.
I miss you lots, don't forget to bring a fur or something. ha ha.
